Benefits of Eating Fish Outweigh Mercury-Related Risks, Report Says
The benefits of eating a couple of servings of most fish or seafood weekly outweigh potential health risks of mercury or other contamination for adults and children, according to a new report commissioned by the federal government that is being issued today and could help settle a long-standing nutritional debate. Not only do the healthy, omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and seafood help protect against heart disease, the report says, but women who consume fish or seafood during pregnancy or while nursing also can promote healthy vision and brain development in their infants. These healthy fats also appear to decrease the risk of delivering a pre-term, low-birth weight baby, the report says.

Every year, sportsmen around the world drag millions of fish to shore on barbed hooks. It’s something people have always done, and with little enough conscience. Fish are … well, fish. They’re not dogs, who yelp when you accidentally step on their feet. Fish don’t cry out or look sad or respond in a particularly recognizable way. So we feel free to treat them in a way that we would not treat mammals or even birds.

Survey finds increase in bull trout nests
HELENA (AP) — Bull trout, a threatened fish whose well-being has driven court cases and changed industrial projects, may be coming back in some areas of Montana, a new survey suggests.
The number of bull trout spawning beds, or redds, added up to five-year highs in a survey of selected streams in northwest Montana near Glacier National Park.
